Four Month Pictures

A peek at some of the four month pictures we had taken of George. Since his four month milestone fell right around Mother's Day, I was sure to have a few 'mommy and me' pictures taken, too!

George:: five months

Georgie turned five months old back on June 18th. Better late than never right? Since I'm super late on this milestone update, I'll keep it short and sweet. During his fourth month of life:

  • He was able to roll from both back to belly and belly to back. Although, he chose to frequently roll from back to belly and then get mad that he was on his belly and cry until you flipped him back over.
  • We completely stopped swaddling due to the above rolling milestone. This was (and still is) a hard transition. When he was swaddled, George would sleep for 8-10 hour periods, only waking once to eat. This was a magical phase! Once we took the swaddle away, the poor guy just couldn't figure it out. He would wake up every 2-4 hours. I was still trying to only nurse him once a night, but I'm not going to lie, some nights I was too tired to fight it and nursed him twice just to get him back to sleep.
  • George loves food! We started with purees when he turned 4 months old. He's a big fan of sweet potatoes, green beans, and all fruit. The only thing he refused to eat was peas. He hated peas!
That's all for now!

Georgie's First Foods

At Georgie's four month check-up, the pediatrician told us that we could start introducing pureed baby foods to him whenever we were ready to. We decided to go ahead and dive into this new stage right away. George has been curious when he sees Michael and I eat for a while now, so we figured he was ready.

Also worth mentioning is that she did tell us that if we wanted to take the baby led weaning route (where you immediately introduce solid finger foods to your baby rather than feeding them purees/baby food) then we would need to wait until he's closer to six months. While we haven't ruled out the baby led weaning option, we figured that we'd go ahead with the purees for now. I think we'll still introducing solids for him to feed himself when he is big enough and do a blend of the two methods. I have no idea if this strategy is "right" or "wrong" or if it will even work for George (first time mom here!) but that's what we are going to try for now.

Anyways, we were advised to start with vegetables since most babies favor the sweetness of fruits over veggies. First up was sweet potatoes! I thought this would be a good first food since it's still a little sweeter than some other veggies. In hindsight, maybe that wasn't the best route. He loved the sweet potatoes and was basically begging for more every time he had them, but wouldn't even open his mouth for the peas I tried to feed him the following week! I tried the peas several times but he just spit them out and made (the cutest) grimace faces so we gave up on them. We tried squash next and while he didn't love it as much as the sweet potatoes, he didn't hate it as much as the peas either. Progress.

I'll share more on Georgie's food chronicles as he gets a little older.

God Bless George

Last month (May 5th) our little Georgie was baptized into the Catholic Church. It was a beautiful celebration. I was a little nervous about how he'd handle Mass but he was an angel the whole time and didn't fuss at all.

After church our friends and families joined us in continuing the celebration. We had lunch at the local golf course and enjoyed time with both of our families. I always love when our families can be together.

A fun tidbit on the baptismal gown that George wore is that it has been in Michael's family for over a hundred years. Everyone on his dad's side of the family has worn it for their baptism. I think it's a pretty neat family tradition and heirloom.

Wedding & Baby Shower Weekend

This weekend was another fun one! On Saturday, George and I went to a friend's wedding. It was George's first wedding and he did so good! We hung out at the reception hall for a bit after the ceremony before going home so Georgie could eat and nap. It is really convenient that the church and hall are two minutes from our house! I wish I would have taken a picture of the two of us.

Some of my girlfriends came over to hang out with us until the wedding party arrived back at the hall to kick off the dinner and dance. It was nice to have a little girl time! Originally I was going to take George back up to the dinner with me, but Michael's mom offered to keep him for a few hours so I took her up on that. Michael had a golf tournament during the day so he made it to the reception about the time that I was leaving to go pick up our baby.

On Sunday, George and I went to Jessie's baby shower. She is having TWINS! I am so excited for her and her little family. Twice the blessings and twice the love. We had a great time celebrating the momma-to-be!

We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around the house and napping/snuggling. It was just what momma needed after a busy weekend!

George:: Four Months

My baby turned four months old this past weekend! Is he not the cutest boy you've ever seen?! He is so sweet and so happy. We are so lucky to have such a fun baby boy.

George grew a lot as a three month old! At his four month doctor's appointment he weighed 15 pounds and 1 ounce and was a whopping 26.25 inches long! He was only in the 40th percentile for weight but the 90th for height and 93rd for head circumference! He is lean and mean with a big ole noggin. :) That length explains why he's already wearing 6 month clothing.

Aside from physically growing like a weed, Georgie's personality also continues to grow! He is such a talker these days and spends most days smiling from ear to ear. My heart could explode with happiness every morning when I wake up to that smiling face.  He loves his bouncy chair, lovey, and is very intrigued by toys these days. He has almost mastered rolling over, too!

The pediatrician said that we could start introducing baby food to George any time now. She said the purees are safe to start whenever we want, but if we want to take the baby led weaning approach then we needed to wait until he was at least six months old. I need to do more research on the baby led weaning process as I'm not sure how easily we could implement it being as both Michael and I work throughout the week. We might do a mixture of both and start him on baby food now and then introduce real foods to him in a couple of months. We'll see!

That's all for now. Have a wonderful weekend!

Winery Weekend

This weekend was a good one! I kicked off my weekend by trying another hot yoga class after work on Friday. I enjoyed the class, but confirmed that I needed to do the beginners workshop to get more comfortable with the poses and movements. Hopefully they offer one that I can attend in the near future.

Saturday was George's 4 month birthday! Michael left bright and early for one of his pal's bachelor party, and his cousin Kate came to watch George for a couple hours while I went to the gym. She lives right up the road and is such a blessing to us. She loves watching George any chance she can get and is so good with him.

After I got home from the gym, I hung out with George for a few hours and then got ready to go to the bachelorette party. A party bus was rented to take us to the wineries and we couldn't have had better weather for it! It was a fun afternoon/evening with entertaining friends.

Michael had to go into work for a while on Sunday so George and I had a lazy day around the house. We went for a walk and took multiple naps. I think he was just as worn out as I was.

I hated that the weekend went by so quickly. It was hard for me to leave my chatty boy this morning to go to work. Here's to a fast work week and long holiday weekend ahead!

George:: Three Months

Right before Easter, George turned three months old! I remember telling everyone that the three month milestone was my favorite so far (although, I think I've felt that way with every milestone and probably will continue to moving forward).

Georgie's personality continued to grow during his third month of life! He became a lot more interactive and would smile at you whenever you would talk to him or give him attention. He started to talk a little bit during month three, too. I've loved every bit of this journey so far and every time I think it can't get better, it somehow does! I swear he becomes funner by the day.

We didn't have a three month check-up so I'm not sure where he was on the height and weight scale, but I think he was weighing around 14 pounds at that point. His cheeks had gotten so chubby and his little dimple continued to shine with every smile!

We made GREAT strides when it came to sleeping during month three. I'd say around nine weeks or so, George would sleep in 10-11 hour stretches only waking one time for a feeding. Occasionally he would sleep 8-9 hours without even waking up to eat. Those nights weren't as frequent, but they did happen! On the occasion that George would wake up outside of his nighttime feeding, we could simply put his paci back in his mouth and he would go right back to sleep. This sleep progress was a huge relief considering I had to go back to work during this time.

George:: Two Months

Our lucky charm turned two months old on March 18th. I really loved the two month milestone. George began to smile more and we started to see his little personality come to life.

At his two month check-up, Georgie weighed 12 pounds and 9 ounces. He was 24 inches long which was in the 88th percentile for his age! His dad is really hoping that he gets some of the Hartman's (my mom's side of the family) height and hits at least six feet tall some day. He seems to think that will be key for George's basketball career. ;)

Other than beginning to really smile, George also started to really enjoy his bath time. We started to implement a bedtime routine around the two month mark which included a bath every night. We could tell that it was a relaxing for him (and there were no more tears!). While he still wasn't sleeping through the night, his sleep stretches were definitely getting longer. He went from waking every 1-3 hours to about every 3-5 hours during his second month of life. We still had multiple nighttime feedings, but we were making some progress!

For whatever reason, George's happy place in our house during this time was his changing table. Michael and I both found it pretty funny because it seemed like for those first couple weeks he really hated having his diaper changed, but then somewhere along the way he decided that it really wasn't too bad. Any time we had a fussy baby, we could just take him in his room and put him on his changing pad and poof! he was instantly in a better mood.

Look at that happy baby!!

P.S. He still wasn't a big fan of Mom's photo shoots at two months old.

George:: One Month

Since I'm clearly behind, I'm going to bounce all over the place with my next few posts. I hope to post some milestone updates, my delivery story, postpartum journey, and so much more.

My sweet boy turns FOUR months old on Saturday, and those four months have brought me so much happiness. Let's backtrack to when George was one month old:

At one month old, our Georgie boy weighed 10 pounds and 12 ounces. He had grown to 22 inches long and was above average on both the height and weight scales. His doctor joked that Mom must be producing whole milk because he had gained so much weight in those first few weeks! It wasn't long after he turned four week's old that he started wearing three month clothes.

As you can see, he really hated Mom trying to take pictures of him so we had to settle for what we could get. We had a lot of visitors stop by for some baby snuggles during George's first month of life and he was always sure to be on his best behavior! We joke now that he likes the chaos of being around a lot of people because he is always so chill during those times. He likes to just sits back and take it all in. Looking back, I realize he's been like that from the start!

George also became a huge fan of his pacifier during that first month of life. We made sure not to go anywhere without it!

Stay tuned for a brief two month update tomorrow!

My First Mother's Day

I am one pretty lucky Momma. My husband (and George) made sure to spoil me for my first Mother's Day. George started the day off by letting me sleep in until 6:00! He's been on a streak of being our 5:00 alarm clock, so that extra hour sure was nice.

Michael made us breakfast and then watched George for a couple hours in the morning while I took a little "me" time. I decided it was time to try out a hot yoga class. It's something I've been wanting to try for a while and since my regular gym doesn't offer Sunday workout classes, I figured what better time to try something new. I really wasn't sure what to expect given I've never even tried regular yoga, but I enjoyed the class and will definitely go again.

When I got back from yoga, we took George up to see Michael's mom (Barbie) and give her a Mother's Day gift. He decided it was a good time for a nap and stayed with Barbie for a couple hours while I went for a bike ride and Michael went to help his dad with some errands on our new property (I'll share more on our new property in a future post!).

Once we were all back home, Michael grilled us steaks and potatoes for dinner. It was so good! George was sure to give me some extra nighttime snuggles, too. It was the best Mother's Day I could have asked for. I'm feeling pretty blessed with this little family of mine.

P.S. I got a really cute Kate Spade purse and chocolates from my boys, too! Dad thought it was funny that the purse was big enough to fit George. I don't think George found it as entertaining. :)

Mother's Day:: We Had A Baby!!

SURPRISE!! We had a baby!!

As you can tell, I took a break from blogging over the past year. Putting these posts together was always something I really enjoyed doing, but for whatever reason, I lost interest in it there for a while. In hindsight, I regret not documenting my pregnancy journey, because it was QUITE the journey. I decided it was time to get back to it now that my son is starting to hit some milestones and hope to share some of the highlights (and lowlights) from the past year as well. So here we go!

On Mother's Day weekend of last year, I found out that I was pregnant. Michael and I were both so excited to be growing our little family although it happened a little sooner than we were expecting! We decided we would start trying to have a baby just a month earlier. We both figured it would take some time and were just hoping I would be pregnant by the end of 2018. Fortunately for us, there was no waiting involved and a short month later (May 12, 2018), I was showing Michael multiple positive pregnancy tests!

I hope to touch more on my pregnancy journey in future posts, but for now, I'll tell you it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies like I was thinking it would be. I always thought since I was active and healthy that pregnancy would be no problem for me. Boy was I wrong. Morning sickness...sciatica... costochondritis...swelling...I experienced it all. I even managed a month long battle with bronchitis at one point. As much as I wanted to love my pregnancy journey, that just wasn't the case for me. With that being said, the moment I met my beautiful baby boy, I immediately forgot about all the struggles that pregnancy brought. It was the most amazing experience of my life.

Okay, that's enough for now. But before I go...meet George! He was born on January 18th, 2019 at 1:43 a.m. and weighed eight pounds and two ounces. He was twenty inches of pure perfection.

Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mommas out there!
