Engagement Photos

After hours of researching (Facebook stalking) photographers, I finally decided to hire Laura Ann Miller as our wedding photographer. All of her photos look like they are straight out of a magazine, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have her capture our wedding journey. Laura was a breeze to work with, and she even agreed to drive all the way to my hometown (where we will be getting married) to shoot our engagement photos.

Next October, we will be married in the Catholic Church where I grew up, and the reception will take place on my parents farm.  Talk about a dream come true! I loved the idea of also being able to capture our engagment session on the farm as well, and it worked out great that Laura got to see the town prior to our big day.

Prior to this, Michael and I have never had professional pictures taken together, so I knew it was going to be an awkward process for the both of us. We started off by driving to the downtown area and took some pictures by the old buildings before heading back to the farm to capture a few more. In the end, I still don't think we were the most elegant of models, but we sure did get some good ones!

Emily Ann

Weekend Recap:: Holiday Season

Holiday Party fun!

This past weekend involved a holiday party, cookie baking, and lots of time spent with family. An ideal first weekend of December if you ask me!

Friday::
After work, Michael and I headed to my company's holiday party. This year, the party was held at Final Cut Steakhouse in the Hollywood Casino. It was such a great night! The food was phenomenal and we ended the night with a little gambling. This was my first holiday party at my new job, and it definitely exceeded expectations. I work with a wonderful group of people.

Saturday::
I drove to Jefferson City Saturday morning to meet my mom and sister for a little Christmas outfit shopping. To say mom spoiled us this year is an understatement. She bought us both multiple outfits and I cannot wait to wear them this winter! After shopping, the whole family went over to the local bar for dinner. It re-opened under new ownership recently so we were eager to support the local business. We were pretty much the only ones there so it was a nice low-key night with family.

My favorite little guys.
Sunday::
Winter had officially arrived as I woke up to the first snow of the season! We spent the whole day baking cookies. We baked everything from chocolate chip and peanut butter, to M&M and sugar cookies and even a few loaves of banana bread (my favorite!). Gavin was such a big help. He loved pouring the ingredients into the bowl and mixing them up. He was even a pro at scooping the dough out onto the pans. It was the perfect way to end a pretty great weekend.

Gavin showing his little brother snow for the first time.

2016 Weddings

Michael and I were fortunate enough to attend a lot beautiful weddings in 2016. We had a blast with
all of our friends and are looking forward to celebrating many more weddings, including our own, in 2017!

Denver Ski Trip!

Main Street, Frisco, CO
I've been begging Michael to take me skiing ever since I saw Ashley's post on her trip to Mammoth Mountain, and guess what?! I finally got him to agree to it! Last weekend we were at a wedding reception and Michael's friend's girlfriend was telling me about how she was trying to get her boyfriend to take her snowboarding. So, naturally I told her how I wanted to go skiing, and we started planning our trip right there.

We initially had no idea where to go, but decided February was the right time to for the trip. As we were browsing top ski resorts, Southwest had a HUGE sale on flights. We saw that Denver was one of the locations and rushed to book our flights before the sale ended! We ended up booking this cute little condo in Frisco, Colorado that is walking distance to their downtown area, and only a short drive to Breckenridge. I can't wait for February to get here. I'd say 2017 is looking pretty good!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

10.07.17

After we got engaged, I was obviously pretty eager to set a date. Michael mentioned that September or October would be his ideal time to get married and I've always envisioned a fall wedding, myself, so that worked out perfectly.

With a time frame in mind, our next obstacle was agreeing on where to have the wedding. I have always wanted to get married in my hometown and then have the reception on my Mom and Dad's farm. Michael, on the other hand, wasn't too keen on this idea and wanted to have it in his hometown where we currently live. After some long conversations, Michael finally agreed to have our special day in my hometown which I am ecstatic about! My mom is pretty excited too since she's always wanted to throw a big party at their place.

After calling the local church, we made it official that we would get married on October 7, 2017, which is exactly one year from today! I couldn't be any more excited to marry and build a life with one of the best people I know. It really is a dream come true!

The picture on the left is from the first time Michael and I met back in 2008. Little did I know that I was meeting my future husband! I had gone to my college friend's hometown (hey Jess!) and we went to hang out with some of her high school buddies. Michael and I hit it off and had a flirtatious relationship from the start, but it never really went anywhere. I was having too much fun in college to have a boyfriend! We reconnected a few years later in 2013 when another one of my college friends convinced me to go on a double date with her and her boyfriend (who happened to be Michael's best friend). Michael and I had a great time and have been inseparable ever since! I can't wait to be Mrs. Haines in exactly one year!

Emily Ann

WE'RE ENGAGED!!!!

I'm extremely late writing this post, but WE'RE ENGAGED!! Michael finally proposed on August 30th at our home. It was just the two of us and the whole thing so cute and perfect.

I had a hunch it was coming because my birthday was in two days, but didn't know it was going to happen on a random Tuesday night! I was so excited and couldn't wait to show off my new bling, so we visited his mom and dad to share the news with them, and then headed to his brother and sister-in-laws house to let them know as well. Since my family lives hours away, I face-timed my mom and casually waved my hand in front of the camera. She was so excited that she cried! Dad said he almost gave up hope since it had been months since Michael asked him if he could marry me. Overall it was a perfect night and I was so excited to tell all my friends and family!

Since my birthday was that Thursday, we had plans to go to the lake with my family which worked out perfect for a birthday and engagement celebration. We headed down on Saturday and spent the day on the boat with my sister and brother-in-law. On Sunday, my mom and dad brought my nephews down and we did a little more boating and spent the evening grilling and enjoying the beautiful weather. Talk about a perfect week!

Summer 2016

I've been seriously slacking on my blog this summer, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been having a blast! Here's a few pictures that haven't made it into any blog posts lately:

Lake of the Ozarks:: First Annual Couples Weekend

Michael and I headed to the Lake of the Ozarks this past weekend with some of our couple friends and we had the absolute best time. Everyone was able to take off work on Friday so we headed down Thursday night to enjoy a three day weekend. Here's a little recap of our trip:

Thursday::
We all packed up after work and headed to the lake. We were all starving once we arrived, so we stopped at Lil Rizzo's for some beer and pizza before heading to the condo. Once we got settled in to our rooms, we all went out to the balcony for a couple more beers and a few rounds of Heads Up. If you haven't played this game with your friends, I highly recommend it. It is so much fun and even the boys loved it!

Friday::
The boys woke up early to get a few rounds of golf in, so us girls decided to sleep in a bit before grabbing breakfast at Blueberries Bistro. After breakfast, we decided it was time to go lounge by the pool for a few hours. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner and then went to play a round of mini golf and ride go karts. Talk about a perfect day!

Saturday::
Once again, the boys decided to play golf so the girls went to breakfast. We decided that the boys hobby was golfing and ours was breakfasting. Around noon we all decided to go back down to the pool to soak up some more sunshine before taking a water taxi to Shady Gators. As soon as we arrived at Shady Gators, we got recruited to go on the Bud Light party cruise.  It was a blast! Who can pass up free beer on a boat?!

Sunday::
Since we had to be checked out of our condo by 10 a.m. we all packed up early and traveled home.

Overall, our trip was absolutely perfect and we decided that it needed to be our first annual couples weekend. I can't wait to do it again next year!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Stitch Fix:: V.5

It's been a couple months since my last Stitch Fix arrived, and I've been so busy that I haven't had time to show you guys what I received. Better late than never, right?!

For those of you who don't know what Stitch Fix is, it's a personal styling service that shops for you and sends 5 items of clothing or accessories to your door, either monthly or on a date of your choosing. You can read a full review of my first two Stitch Fix deliveries here.

Here we go....

  • When I first saw this off-the-shoulder top in the box, I wasn't a fan. After trying it on with some white skinnies and heels, I loved it! The floral print is so unique, and lately I've been a big fan of anything off-the-shoulder. I wracked my brain on when I would be able to wear it, and just couldn't come up with enough opportunities in the near future to rock it, so I decided to return it.  Still regretting that decision.

  • Hello, chambray tops! These are definitely in this season, and I fell in love with this polka dot tank as soon as I saw it in the box. After trying it on, I knew there was no way I could return it. It was definitely a keeper.

  • These shorts, on the other hand, did nothing for me. I could tell that they were going to be WAY too big, and sure enough they were. They were quite unflattering and also pretty see-through. It was an easy decision to send them back.

  • This statement necklace was the only piece of jewelry in my fix and I just didn't love it. I think I need to tell my stylist to hold off on sending me jewelry since I have yet to love any of the pieces that I have received.

  • While I didn't really love or hate this top, I had my mind made up before I even tried it on that I would be returning it. It just looks too much like so many other tops that I own, so I definitely didn't feel a need to keep it. Plus, it was incredibly wrinkly and I'm just not the ironing type of gal.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite fix, but I do love the chambray top that I decided to keep. Can't wait to see what comes in my next delivery!

Emily Ann

Daydreaming

Believe it or not, 2016 is already halfway gone!  I'm not quite sure how that happened, but lately I have been thinking back on how good the first half of the year has been to me. I kicked off the year with my first-ever trip to Las Vegas in January.  Then, I was blessed with a new nephew, and also headed to Nashville for the first time in February.  I followed that up by taking a trip to Mexico with Michael in April, started a new job in May, and then celebrated my one year mark in my new home in June. It's crazy how time flies, but I'm not sure how things could have been much better!

Of course, I don't want the fun to stop, so I am already trying to get things planned for the second half of the year! Michael and I will be heading to the Lake of the Ozarks in a couple of weeks with his family, and I'm hoping we can take another trip in late August with some friends. A beach trip with my girlfriend in September is also in the works.  After hearing great things from Jess, I think a trip to the Hermann wineries with my mom and sister this fall is also a must. I've also wanted to give skiing a try ever since reading about Ashley's trip to Mammoth Mountain. Hopefully, we can kick off 2017 with a trip to the mountains. Clearly, I have the travel bug! Life sure is good.

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

July Line Up

  • Nephew time
    • I'll be babysitting my nephews while their mom and dad enjoy a night out and I couldn't be more excited. I mean how cute are these two?! Gavin is at such a fun age and has dubbed me "E", which I love. Garett is such a little (okay, chubby) snuggle bug and I can't wait to get some lovin' in!
  • Mom's 4th of July Party
    • This annual 4th of July party is always a must. All of our family and friends get together to barbecue, sip on some drinks, play games, and watch the Scott family fireworks.
  • All-inclusive Cardinals game
    • One of Michael's pals will be turning 30 this month, and we all got tickets to the Cards game to celebrate. You can't go wrong with all-inclusive!
  • Chris Janson
    • I've never been to the Lincoln County Fair, but I've heard Chris Janson puts on a great show so I hope to make it!
  • Jason Aldean
    • I'm pretty sure this will be the 5th time I've seen Jason Aldean in concert and I'm not mad about it. He puts on such a great show and I love singing along to all of his songs! Plus, I'll have a few of my college girlfriends with me so its bound to be a good time.
  • Lake of the Ozarks
    • Michael's family makes a trip to the Lake every year for some sunshine, boating, and good company. I'll only be able to make it for a couple days this year, but I am looking forward to a little getaway.

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Weekly Bits:: X

Played:: Mini Golf
  • It's been a while since we've played a nice competitive game of mini golf so Michael and I headed to Pheasant Run this week for a quick 18 holes. While I started off "careering" it as Michael called it, I ended up getting my butt kicked in the end. We had perfect weather though and my company wasn't too shabby either.
Dined:: The Brass Rail
  • After mini golf, we headed to The Brass Rail for dinner. I had a steak and asparagus while Michael opted for the cajun chicken and shrimp pasta. While dinner was decent, I can't say that I loved the food.
Snacked:: FroYo
  • We ended our date night at FroYo (go big or go home right?!) and boy was it delicious. It has been a while since I've had frozen yogurt, but it sure is the perfect summer treat.
Read:: The Weekenders
  • I've been hooked on Mary Kay Andrew's books lately. They make for perfect summertime reads. It took me a bit longer to get into The Weekenders than it did Summer Rental but I am now hooked and plan to finish it up tonight. I'll be sure to post a review of my recent reads soon!
Received:: Stitch Fix
  • My quarterly delivery came this week and I was thrilled! There is something so fun about having someone style outfits for you. Stay tuned to see what my stylist picked out!
Mile Log:: 535
  • I've been doing some serious work on the gravel road lately with my morning walk/runs. Over halfway to my 1,000 mile goal!
Happy July!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Weekend Recap:: Summer Vibes

This past weekend ended up being a perfect summer weekend, and I loved every second of it!

Friday::
After work, Michael and I headed to the golf course for a little scramble. I've tagged along on trips to
the driving range multiple times, but this was only the second time that I have actually played on a course.  Oh boy was I awful! I'm pretty sure I missed the ball more than I hit it.  Despite my lack of skills, we still had a good time. We finished up and got some dinner, but Michael had to lend a hand out in the hay fields, so I stopped by Redbox and rented a couple of movies.  I spent the rest of my night curled up on the couch watching How to be Single and Sisters. I didn't love either of them but would probably recommend How to be Single over Sisters.

Saturday::
Jess came over Saturday morning to join me for a walk on the gravel road. We did a little front porch sitting when we got back to the house, and then spent a couple hours lounging in the pool. Later that evening, we headed to a friend's wedding and danced the night away.

Sunday::
I joined a few of my friends for a girls' day at the pool. It was the perfect way to cap off a great summer weekend.

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Weekly Bits:: IX

Read:: Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews
  • I've been working on this book for a while now and finally sat down this week to make some progress on it. I am totally hooked and can't wait to find out what happens! If you're looking for the perfect summer beach read, this is it.
Watched:: Me Before You
  • I read this book last year and loved it, so you could imagine my excitement when I heard it was going to be made into a movie. A friend and I headed to the theater to see it this week and let me tell you it didn't disappoint! The characters were cast perfectly and I loved the movie (maybe even more than the book)!
Bought:: Toddler Nike's
  • Seriously, how cute are these toddler boy Nike shoes?! I couldn't resist buying them for my nephew.
Attended:: Spin class
  • It's been a looong time since I've attended a spin class, but this past week I made time to attend a couple and really enjoyed them. I'm going to start trying to make it to at least one or two classes a week. I'm also curious about the muscle works class, and plan to give it a try in the coming weeks.
Mile Log:: 463 miles
  • Whoa! I'm almost halfway to my 1000 mile goal for 2016. Since the summer heat is officially here, I've been knocking out my miles in the morning before work. I'm loving the energy that it gives me to take on the day!
I'll be heading home this weekend to spend Father's Day with my family. I hope you all have plans to celebrate your dads this weekend, too!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

    • A couple friends and I will be heading to the Parachute concert at Old Rock House this weekend. This will be my third time seeing them and I am extremely excited! They are so great live.

  • Cedar Lakes Cellar
    • Some girlfriends and I are going to head to the winery on Memorial Day weekend to sip some wine and have much need girl time!
Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!

Moving On

As our last years of college started to wind down, my girlfriends and I swore that we'd all get jobs in St. Louis and continue our friendship in the "big city".  So, I was thrilled when I was offered a position working for a robotics company just outside of St. Louis. It's crazy to think that was five and a half years ago, and today will be my last day working for that company.

Looking back on the past five+ years, I realize how fortunate I have been to have landed this job. While there have been many trials (and I'll admit, even tears) over the past several years, I have also been provided with an outstanding opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. Back in 2011, I started here as a timid Purchasing Specialist. I quickly grew out of that timidness as I gained confidence in myself and my knowledge of the industry started to grow. Within two and a half years, I was promoted to Accounting Manager and always tried my best to prove myself worthy of that role.

Over the past couple years, I have been able to build a team that I am proud of and become a mentor to those who work for me. I have been able to further my accounting knowledge and become a valuable resource within the company. I have made lifelong friends. I feel that I have truly met all of the goals that I set for myself when I started my first "adult" job. So, with that, I know that it is now time for me to move on.

There are big changes coming my way and I couldn't be more excited to start this new adventure. I know that there is still so much for me to learn and I am eager to continue to grow my knowledge and my career. While the idea of starting over seems a bit scary, I just know that this leap of faith is going to bring great things.

Cheers to the next chapter of this crazy book called life!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Weekly Bits:: VIII

This week was an exciting one for me. Lots of big changes ahead!

Accepted:: A New Job!!
  • Life always has a way of working out just as it should. The past year I have been commuting an hour each way for work, and it has been pretty tough. Two hours of driving a day is not ideal. This past week I was offered a job closer to home and accepted! It is going to be such a great change for me and I cannot wait to embark on this new journey.
Attended:: Cardinals vs. Cubs
  • This was my first Cardinals game of the season! Even though the Cards lost, it was still a beautiful night to watch the game and enjoy some great company.

Cooked:: Spaghetti Squash
  • I've been wanting to give spaghetti squash a shot for a while now. Being the picky eater that I am, however, I was a bit skeptical. I finally tried it this past week and am glad I did! It will definitely be my go-to replacement for noodles in the future.

Dreamed:: About Mexico
  • The first week back at work after a fun vacation is always hard.  Add in a new job offer, and the chances of being productive are slim. I spent the majority of my days this week wishing I was back on the beach working on my tan!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

P.S. I get to see this chunky monkey this weekend and couldn't be more excited! What is better than a chubby baby?!

Love this little guy!
