2015 Wanderlust Recap

At the beginning of 2015, I told myself that I wanted a year of adventures. Prior to this year, my last vacation was in 2010 (college spring break!), and I knew it was time to invest in life experiences and explore new places. I may have gone a little overboard with my wanderlust, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. 2015 was an amazing year! Here is a brief overview of my big adventures from this year:
  • Denver
    • A few friends and I took a completely random and spur of the moment trip to Denver in April. Even though it rained on us almost the whole time we were there, we had a great time hiking in the Rocky Mountains and exploring the city of Denver.
  • Mexico
    • Two of my girlfriends and I had been looking forward to this all-inclusive trip for months. In an unfortunate turn of events, Jess misplaced her passport and wasn't able to attend.  However, Erika and I still made the most of our adventure. We had a blast lounging on the beach, snorkeling, hammocking, and meeting new people. I am eager to get another girls' trip planned for 2016!
  • Georgia/South Carolina
    • My family and I traveled south to visit with my Aunts and Uncles in Georgia and South Carolina. This was the first family vacation we had taken in several years and I loved every second of it! Highlights included lounging by the pool, riding the Harley from GA to SC with Dad, and lots of nephew loving!
  • Washington D.C.
    • My cousin moved to D.C. earlier this year, and I had been itching to find some time to go and visit her. I finally convinced my sister to tag along for a girls' trip. We had the best time exploring the city and doing some much needed catching up!
2016 is shaping up to be another year full of fun experiences. As of now, Michael and I already have trips to Las Vegas and Mexico planned. I can't wait to see what the future holds - I just know it's going to be great!

Sincerely,

Emily Ann

Weekly Bits:: 25

Man have I been slacking on my posts lately or what? Life has been busy! Here's a peek at what I've been up to the past couple of weeks:

Attended:: Blues Game
  • A couple friends and I got tickets and headed to our first Blue's game of the season. They didn't win but we still had a good time watching, chatting, and sipping on a couple beers. I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have the little kids play a game at intermission. That is always my favorite part!
Listened:: Santa Jam and Jinglefest
  • The best part about cold weather is all of the great concerts! The Pageant has to be my favorite venue in St. Louis and I loved seeing Cam and Brothers Osborne there a couple weeks ago at Santa Jam. They were both great!
  • One of my girlfriends from home road tripped up to visit for Jinglefest last week. Sam Hunt....swoon! Maddie & Tae were great too! I was pretty disappointed with Tyler Farr's performance. I love so many of his songs (and the fact that he is from Missouri is a plus too!), but his performance was lacking in my opinon.
Hosted:: Work Christmas Party
  • Our work Christmas Party at Fallon's Bar & Grill went really well. Our room was a little tight for our group size but everyone seemed to have a good time and the trivia went over great! Unfortunately, I am awful at trivia and our team didn't win.
Sipped:: Christmas Beers
  • A friend and I did a gift exchange recently. We were sure to have lots of Christmas Beer and pizza for the festivities. I really enjoyed the Breckenridge Christmas Ale and got some pretty great gifts!
Painted:: A Rustic Snowman
  • Let me start off by saying that I have no artistic talent (let's be honest, I'm talking zero artistic talent). With that being said, I do enjoy occasionally going to a wine and paint class with friends. Last night a friend and I attended one at Pinot's Palette in Chesterfield. Being as I am not a wine drinker, we substituted our wine with beer and gave this rustic snowman our best shot! My snowman started off rough, but ended up kind of cute!

Winter Movie Preview

With the first day of winter quickly approaching (next week already!), I thought I'd share with you some of the movies I'm looking forward to this season. I completely failed when it came to my fall movie line up and ended up only seeing one of the movies on it. Going to the movies isn't as easy when you live an hour away from the theater as as it was when you lived 5 minutes away! Here's a peek at some I would like to see over the next few months:

Recent Reads:: V.4

Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave
  • This book was another one that I listened to during my daily commute and I loved it! The relationships and family dynamics flowed perfectly and the vineyard setting added a bit of uniqueness to the storytelling. There were twists and turns that I didn't see coming and I loved hearing how Georgia came to really appreciate her hometown.  I recommend this book.
Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler
  • I really enjoyed this book. I read it on my flights to and from Washington D.C.. Being from a small, Midwestern town, there are a lot of things I could relate to. The story revolved around a group of friends who grew up together and went their separate ways after high school. Life continued to bring them back together as their careers and relationships evolved. There are ups and downs and a ton of fun memories. Great story, great writing, great book. I definitely recommend this book.
  • I love a book that pulls you in after just the first few pages, and that is exactly how this book was written. In the first chapter, the main character runs into a girl at the grocery store who looks identical to a girl he dated in college that died 20 years earlier. When he approaches her, she drops everything and runs. From that point on, I was hooked and needed to know what was going to happen next. I recommend this book.
In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
  • This book revolves around a bachelorette party (it is called a hen party in the book due to the English setting) gone very wrong. Nora hasn't spoken to her childhood friend, Clare in over 10 years and is taken back when she is invited to her hen party. She reluctantly decides to go and someone ends up dead by the end of the weekend. The story line seemed pretty far fetched to me so I struggled to keep reading at times. I wouldn't recommend this book.
    • Side note: The cover made this book appear far more dark and twisted than it really was and I felt misled by this design choice.

Emily Ann

December Lineup

Here we are in December already! This year has flown by. Here's a peek at how I will be spending the last month of 2015:

St. Louis Blues Game
  • I always try to make it to at least one Blues game a year. Hockey isn't necessarily my favorite sport, but the atmosphere of a hockey game is by far the most fun of all the sporting events I go to.
Santa Jam
  • Cam, Brothers Osborne, and Big & Rich for $10? Yes, please! I have been in love with Cam ever since I heard her rendition of Adele's Hello on the Bobby Bones Show. I can't wait to see her live! You also can't go wrong with a little Brothers Osborne...currently listening to Stay a Little Longer on repeat.
Shopping trip with Mom
  • My mom loves to go to Rosebud's Grand Antique Mall whenever she has a chance, and I am eager to be tagging along this Friday!  I hope to finding some neat pieces both for my home and to gift during the holiday season.
JingleFest
  • Sam Hunt, Tyler Farr, and Maddie & Tae = a killer lineup! I have been wanting to see Sam Hunt live for a long time now and after hearing the rest of the Jinglefest lineup, I just couldn't resist picking up tickets for this show.
Work holiday party
  • One of my responsibilities at work is planning all of the events. For our annual holiday party, we will be heading to Fallon's Bar and Grill to sip some drinks, enjoy delicious food, and play a little trivia. There will also be a live Irish band which I am eager to see!
Hot Chocolate 5K
  • A couple years ago, a friend and I attempted the Hot Chocolate 15K. It was by far the coldest run I have ever done. This year, we opted for the shorter path so we can make it to the end a little quicker to enjoy the hot chocolate and treats!
Pinot's Palette
  • What better way to get in the holiday spirit than sipping on wine and painting this rustic snowman? I am in no way an artistic person, so it will be interesting to see how my painting turns out!
Christmas celebrations
  • I have 6 days around Christmas off of work, so I am looking forward to celebrating the holiday and soaking up as much family time as possible.
New Year's celebrations
  • My plans are still up in the air right now, but I am looking forward to spending my third New Year's Eve with Michael and seeing what 2016 has in store.

Sincerely,

Emily Ann
