Happy Thanksgiving, Friends!

Happy Thanksgiving all! I will be spending my day enjoying time with family and eating too much delicious food. In true Thanksgiving fashion, I thought I would share some of the things I am thankful for:
  • My family - God has truly blessed me with the most wonderful family. I don't know what I would do without them.
  • Michael - If you would have told me six years ago that I would be madly in love with this boy, I would have told you you were nuts! Today, I am so thankful to have him in my life. He keeps me sane, makes me laugh, lifts me up when I'm feeling down, and supports me no matter what.
  • Best friends - As I've gotten older, I've realized how important it is to surround yourself with people who make you a better person. That is exactly what my best friends do. They are some of the most thoughtful, caring, and fun people that I know and they make me and my life so much better.
  • Being Auntie Em - Being an aunt is seriously the best feeling in the world! My nephew is the silliest, cutest, most fun little boy that I know. I'm so excited for nephew number two to be here early next year!
  • My job - I am grateful to have a job that allows me to have the financial freedom required to fulfill my need for adventure. This year particularly, I have had the opportunity to travel and make some great memories with all of the people I mentioned above which to me is what life is all about.
  • Thanksgiving dinner - If I had to pick a favorite holiday, I would pick Thanksgiving because let's be real, the food is amazing! Any time it is more than acceptable to eat all the turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and pie that my little heart desires is a great day in my books. Family time doesn't hurt either. :)
  • Small towns - When I was younger, I never really appreciated my hometown. It was small, boring, and I wanted out. I moved away for college and then to St. Louis to start my career. It didn't take long after for me to realize that I took that small, boring town for granted. I am so thankful that I have ended up in another small town where I can enjoy our simple, country life.
  • Down time - Life is hectic. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of trying to be everywhere and do everything. I am grateful for my "me time" where I can get wrapped up in a good book, hit the gravel road for a jog, or binge watch my favorite TV shows
I hope you enjoy your day, I know I will!

P.S. My incredibly talented friend made the print above. I just love it. I have it framed in my kitchen and it serves as a subtle reminder to give thanks every day.

Instagram Lately

I don't know about you, but I can't believe it's already late November!  I just don't know where the time goes.  With Thanksgiving only a day away, I thought it would be nice to reflect on some of the moments and adventures I've captured so far this fall on Instagram:

Fall Style:: OTK Boots

I received a pair of OTK boots last year for Christmas, and honestly never wore them because I wasn't sure how to style them. I found this piece of inspiration and attempted to copy it using pieces that I already own. Below is the end result. I think it turned out well!

Weekend Recap:: Country Music + COMO

Some girlfriends and I headed to see CMT's Suits and Boots Tour featuring Thomas Rhett and Brett Eldredge after work. This wasn't the best concert that I've been to, but we still had a good time! Thomas Rhett with full of energy and so fun to watch, but I was a little bored with Brett Eldredge's performance.

Any time cowboy boots are acceptable is a good time!
A few of us girls packed up and headed to Columbia, MO for some tailgating at the Mizzou vs. Tennessee football game. Naturally, it was the coldest day of the fall season, and we even had our first snowfall. Perfect tailgating weather, right?

We started our trip off by grabbing a pizza from Shakespeare's (a local favorite) and headed to Logboat Brewing Company. It was a neat place, and I'd love to go back when the weather is warmer.

Logboat Brewing Company
Can't go wrong with pizza and beer!
After finishing up lunch, we headed back to my friend's apartment to get all bundled up to brave the cold weather. I'm not going to lie, I'm very much a fair weather fan. So, the idea of tailgating in 30 degree weather with 20 mile per hour winds really was not too appealing to me. We lasted about 30 minutes before heading downtown to visit some of the local bars. was pretty cold
High school friends
Still freezing
Mini Magic Tree!
I got home around noon on Sunday and was exhausted. My day consisted of napping, laundry, and catching up on some of my favorite TV shows. It was a much needed relaxing end to a busy weekend.

How was your weekend?

Skippo 10K Trail Race

Last week, I mentioned that some friends and I participated in the Skippo 10K Trail Race recently. Let me tell you, this was by far the hardest run I have ever done!

It started off easy...

It was advertised as "a fairly flat course, except, of course, for the famous stairs!", so I was confident that I could handle it. Oh, the lies! The course was anything but flat. The terrain was rocky, the hills were steep, and there were creeks to cross. Oh, and those famous stairs?  Well, they seemed never-ending! Although we tried to run as much of it as we could, there were some hills that we just had to walk. Even while we were walking I was still worried about tripping and falling down a steep hillside. And while we're on the subject of tripping, I guess I should confess that I actually did take a tumble myself. My foot caught a tree root and I not-so-gracefully face-planted into the ground in front of several strangers. Needless to say, it was not my finest moment.

The stairs of death...
We made it to the top!
But first, let's take a selfie

It was far from a graceful run, but we did survive! Overall, I did enjoy the trail race. The scenery was beautiful and nothing about the run was boring. I will have to adjust my expectations prior to signing up for another one in the future, though!

And we survived....

Weekly Bits:: 23

Made:: S'mores Crescent Rolls
  • I made these to take to the bonfire last weekend, and they were delicious! They were so quick and easy to make. I highly recommend you try them.
Attended:: Coloring Club
  • I have to admit, I thought Jess was a bit nutty when she started to express her excitement for adult coloring books...who knew those were even a thing? But the idea of attending a coloring club meetup at a local bar? Now, that intrigued me. I decided to give it a shot, and I am glad I did! We had a blast hanging out, sipping on beers, and coloring. You can see my finished masterpiece here.
Sipped:: Urban Chestnut brews
  • In honor of #NationalHappyHour day, I made a visit to a local brewery to give a few new brews a try. I tried the Hallertauer Pale Ale and the Zwickel. Both were excellent, but if I had to choose I'd say I liked the Zwickel best.
Wish List:: Everything fall and winter...Everything.
  • With the holidays quickly approaching, I'm trying to not make any purchases for myself, which in turn, leads to a long wish list! Here are a few of the items I've been eyeing lately:

Happy Friday!

Fall Style:: Grey Duster Cardigan

I am loving the duster cardigan style right now, so, naturally, I couldn't wait to pull mine out this fall. I found the perfect piece of style inspiration from Sydney of The Daybook, and decided to give it a try this week. I paired it with my favorite black booties, and am loving the way it turned out. What are some of your favorite fall styles?

Guest Post:: Jess of Silex In The City

Hey everyone! I'm Jess, the writer behind Silex in the City and a good friend of Emily's. When she asked me to guest post, I gave an immediate "Yes!" followed by a fist pump. We brainstormed a few topics and I decided to go with my favorite Etsy shops & put a local spin on it. So, here are my top 4 Etsy shops based here in St. Louis.

The mecca for gallery wall art! My favorite :: Wherever you are, be all there.

The perfect spot for copper jewelry & macrame. She used to carry tri-colored wooden necklaces, that was my first ever Etsy purchase!

Custom illustrations! I wish I was this talented. So many occasions are perfect for gifting from here: baby showers, housewarming gifts, etc.

This shop is owned by a very talented girl I went to college with. Custom invites, prints & garland. If only I had a mantle to hang this banner from, Hello Fall.

What are your favorite items from these St. Louis based makers?

Over & out- Thanks for having me, Em!

Weekend Recap:: Friends and Family

This past weekend was pretty perfect. It was packed full of activities with so many of my favorite people!

My best friend from my hometown came to visit me for the weekend, so I took a half day at work and we spent the afternoon shopping and running errands. Later, we went for a long walk down the gravel road by my house, and then made chili for dinner.

After dinner, we watched Magic Mike XXL and she taught me how to crochet. She has been crocheting for years and is SO good at it. I am doing my best to try and make a scarf for my first project. There are a lot of imperfections, but I think it is going to turn out pretty decent for being my first ever attempt!

Struggling to figure it out
We woke up bright and early and headed to Castlewood State Park to participate in the Skippo 10K Trail Race. It was quite the adventure, so stay tuned for more on that later!

After we got back home and relaxed for a bit, we headed to Jess' house for a bonfire. We sipped on beers, ate some delicious food, and enjoyed the company of her friends and family. It was a perfect fall evening.

The hardest 10K of my life
Perfect night for a bonfire

Michael and I headed to my hometown on Sunday morning to celebrate my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. We arrived around 11, and I immediately headed to my sister's house to see my nephew. I haven't seen him since our family vacation, and that is just way too long! He wasn't feeling well (poor guy had double ear infections) so he was especially cuddly and I soaked it up.

Later, we headed to dinner at a local restaurant and mingled with my dad's side of the family. My aunt and uncle that we visited in Georgia were in town, too, so we almost had the whole gang there. It was great to see everyone. We don't get together often enough!

Fall Style:: Warm Weather

Missouri weather is so funny. Mid 50's one day and nearly 80 degrees the next! That kind of weather sure does make it hard for a girl to transition into all of her warm and cozy fall clothes. Here's a peek at how I made one of my favorite fall looks work with yesterday's warm weather.

P.S. This scarf is one of my FAVORITES from Three Sheep Shack. Be sure to check out their adorable Etsy shop!

November Lineup

I'm pretty sure I say this every month, but I seriously cannot believe it's November already. Only two more short months until we are closing out 2015 and welcoming in 2016. This year has flown by!

November is one of my favorite months...bring on bonfires, boots, and cozy blankets! Here's a look at what I have scheduled this month:

Hunt for Hope 5K
  • I started November by knocking one item off my birthday bucket list. This was such a fun event for a great cause. Read more on it here.
Skippo 10K
  • This Saturday, I am  hoping to cross another item off my birthday bucket list as a couple friends and I are attempting a 10K trail race. The course is full of creeks, hills, and stairs. Hopefully we survive!
Fall Bonfire
  • A friend of mine has invited a group of her friends and family to their farm on Saturday night. I couldn't be more excited - the fall season is not complete without a good bonfire!
  • As a Coloring Club newbie, I am eager to see what these events are all about!
Michael's Birthday + Opening Day of Deer Season
  • The opening day of deer season happens to fall on Michael's birthday weekend this year. Sometimes he let's me tag along on his hunts, so I'm looking forward to enjoying a weekend on the farm with him.
  • I am so looking forward to this concert! I currently have this song on repeat.
Mizzou Tailgating
  • Some of my hometown friends and college friends are meeting in Columbia for a day full of football and fun!
  • Spending time with family is the perfect way to end a great month.

P.S. I stole this picture from Michael's deer cam. Who knew those things took such good pictures?!

Weekend Recap:: Hello, November!

I spent this past weekend enjoying great music with great friends and soaking up some much needed down-time.

I started my weekend with a little happy hour at O'Fallon Brewery, and then a few friends and I headed to The Pageant to see Mat Kearney & Parachute perform. I had seen Parachute in concert before (and loved them), but this was my first time seeing Mat Kearney. Let me tell you, he did not disappoint! His performance was flawless - so flawless, in fact, that Jessie thought he was lip syncing the whole time (he definitely wasn't)! You can see a peek of the concert on Instagram.

I spent my Saturday cleaning the house, hanging out with Michael, and face-timing my favorite little minion! I know I'm bias, but I can't get over how cute my nephew is! I was hoping to have some trick-or-treaters for Halloween, but we struck out. I guess Michael will just have to eat that whole basket of candy on his own!

On Sunday, I participated in the Hunt for Hope 5K in our little town. It was such a fun set up. They had deer decoys hidden throughout the course, and you had to "shoot" (take a picture with your phone) them as you saw them. Anyone who finished with pictures of all of the deer, was entered to win the grand prize. And what's even better is that the event raised more than $10,000 for a local gentleman who has been a long time supporter of the school athletics and community. He is currently fighting stage 4 colon cancer, and the athletic club hoped this event would raise enough to cover one of his medical treatments. But, as it turned out, the event raised enough to cover more than three times that! It is amazing what a small-town community can pull together to accomplish.

I finished my day by knocking out some more reading. I am hooked on Somebody I Used to Know by David Bell. I can't wait to finish it and provide you with some feedback on it...stay tuned!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
