Weekend Recap:: Home Sweet Home

It has been a busy couple of weeks for me! I am a day late posting my weekend recap, but here it is:

Home Sweet Home
I took a half day at work, and spent the entire afternoon finishing up packing and cleaning my condo. Michael and his dad came with the U-Haul around 5:00 and we packed up my furniture and made the final trip to my new house. We have been getting a LOT of rain the past few weeks, and, just my luck, the highway we needed to take to get home was closed due to flooding. It took us nearly two hours to get there, but we finally we made it, unpacked, and got the organization process underway.

The flooded town
Just a small part of my mess

Back in St. Louis, I had my final walk through of my condo with my landlord on Saturday morning. Once that was wrapped up, I locked the doors for the last time and officially handed back the keys! I ran some errands, headed back home, and spent the afternoon unpacking and organizing. Michael's nephew, Will, had his baptism on Saturday night, and Michael was lucky enough to be his godfather. After the baptism, we headed over to his mom and dad's for a little get  together with the family. We ate delicious food, sipped on some beverages, and enjoyed the beautiful (rain free!) night.

Goodbye, Chesterfield!
Adorable gifts from my friends Jess and Tom

Determined to cut down on the mess I made over the last couple days, I dedicated my morning to doing more unpacking and organizing. My mess slowly dwindled until almost all of my belongings had found a place. My mom and dad rode the Harley up to visit on Sunday afternoon. Mom wanted "to see where I was going to be living." They really liked the house, and Michael even gave them a grand tour of the town (which took all of 5 minutes). We stopped by Michael's mom and dad's house so that our parents could meet for the first time, too. I think it went well! It made me really happy that my parents came to visit, but I was sad that they couldn't stay longer.

The mess is gone!

Overall, it was a busy but fulfilling weekend. I love my new home, and love getting to spend more time with Michael. I've lived in a lot of different places since I graduated high school, but this is the closest place to "home" that I have felt since leaving Russellville. I'm looking forward to our future together!

Weekly Bits:: 6

  • Since I won't be needing them in my new home, I sold my living room furniture and mattress. The furniture was loaded up and taken away on Monday night, and the mattress was picked up on Tuesday, so I officially had nothing left to sleep on in St. Louis! I then loaded up my car with as much as I could fit, and made the hour drive to my new home!
  • Each of the following nights after work, I repeated the process of loading my car full of things and then unloading them into Michael's kitchen. Needless to say, that kitchen is a mess. I have tried to start organizing, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the task of finding a place for all my things.  Trust me when I say that I have a lot of stuff!
  • Tonight, Michael is coming to help load up all the furniture that will be making the move, and then...well that's that...I'm officially a Lincoln County resident. I'm so excited that this next chapter of my life is finally beginning. But first, I have A LOT of organizing to do this weekend!

Three Day Refresh

During my week of vacation in Mexico, I was eating and drinking so much junk, and I was feeling pretty bogged down towards the end.  By the time I returned home, all that food and drink had definitely caught up with me! Thankfully, before I left on my trip, I decided that I would give the 3 Day Refresh program a try upon my return. My hopes were to flush out all of the junk I had consumed over vacation and start summer off feeling great!

Here is brief recap of my eating schedule::

Wake Up:: Glass of water

Breakfast:: Shakeology + Fruit
  • I tried both the vanilla and chocolate Shakeology. Both were WAY better than I was expecting them to be. I liked the chocolate the best, but I really enjoyed both flavors.
  • My fruit of choice for breakfast was a banana for the first two days and an apple for day three.
Mid-Morning:: Fiber Sweep + bottle of water
  • This drink is terrible. It's really thick and definitely my least favorite part of the refresh.
Lunch:: Vanilla drink + Fruit + Vegetable
  • The vanilla drink was good! Not quite as good as the Shakeology, but certainly an improvement over the Fiber Sweep.
  • I opted for strawberries as my lunch fruit for all three days.
  • Due to my nature as a picky eater, vegetables are a little more of a struggle for me than fruit is. The first day I tried cucumbers and humus. That was a fail. I'm just not a cucumber person. Days two and three I had green beans. Can't go wrong with green beans!
Mid-Afternoon:: Fruit + Water
  • I switched my afternoon fruit up every day. I had an apple, peaches, and a banana.
Dinner:: Vanilla Drink + Vegetable + Fruit
  • I had asparagus as my vegetable all three nights. It was the only other vegetable on the list that I liked other than the green beans. Two nights I skipped my vanilla drink because I just wasn't feeling it. I switched up my fruit each night too...strawberries, banana, and peaches.
Recap:: I really enjoyed this program and will definitely be doing it again. Prior to the refresh I was feeling very sluggish and bloated. After, I felt great! It definitely motivated me to continue my healthy eating habits. There were a couple times during the refresh that I felt pretty hungry, but overall, I don't feel like I was starving the whole three days. I also lost 3.5 lbs, which I consider a success!

Mom's Landscaping

My mom is really great with landscaping. Each time I come home, I seem to find a charming, new addition in her yard. It is always full of beautiful flowers, monkey grass, and now even a gnome village! Mom and Gavin found the perfect place to start a gnome village in the roots of one of the trees in their yard.  The biker gnome that my sister and I gave our dad last Christmas has even found a home here. I thought this was such an adorable idea! Apparently, this is just the start to the gnome village so I will be sure to update you as the village continues to grow!

Weekend Recap:: Father's Day

Fishing with Dad!

I spent this past weekend at home with my family and it was wonderful! Sometimes it's nice to just go home and unwind. After a few busy weeks recently, a weekend on the farm was much needed!

I drove home after a long day at work. My Mom went to see a play in Jeff City with my Grandma and Aunts, so Dad and I were left to fend for ourselves for dinner. I decided stop by and grab us some food from our favorite Mexican restaurant (El Jimador) while passing through Jeff. We ate and then both fell asleep while watching TV.

The family spent most of the morning butchering chickens (gross, I know). There was no way I was helping with that, so I volunteered to watch the kiddos. My nephew and little cousin were quite the handful! They wore me out. Later, I spent the evening with my nephew and sister, before calling it an early night.

My daredevil nephew!
Mom made a great big breakfast for Dad to celebrate Father's Day. After breakfast, my dad and I went fishing. He caught 20 or so, and I caught about 5. Clearly, he's the better fisherman. Later, my brother-in-law made us BBQ chicken for dinner. I think we will be eating a lot of chicken for a while!  To close out the day, my sister and I gave my dad a canvas of this picture and a saddlebag cooler for his Harley for Father's Day. He loved both gifts!

My big catch!

This week is going to be a busy one! I have a lot of packing and cleaning left to do before I move on Friday!

I hope you all have a great week!

Weekly Bits:: 5

Received:: New washing machine!
  • One of my requirements prior to moving was that Michael get a new washing machine installed. We took advantage of the Sears Memorial Day Sale and got a great deal on this one. It arrived on Wednesday and works great!
Moved:: Kitchen Supplies
  • Slowly but surely, my belongings are beginning to make the move into Michael's house. This week I packed up the majority of my kitchen supplies and brought them over. It may take a lot of rearranging, but I think I'll be able to make everything fit!
Explored:: Go Ape - Creve Coeur Park
  • As a team building activity for work, I took my team to try out Go Ape! It is a zip lining adventure through the treetops of Creve Coeur Park. We had a great time! Check out a little peek of our adventure here
  • Heights have never really been my thing, but I have been doing my best in recent years to get over my fear. I took a huge leap (literally and figuratively) a few years back and decided to go skydiving in an attempt to conquer my fear! It was by far the craziest thing I have ever done. You can see a video of that adventure here
Tried:: 3 Day Refresh by Beach Body
  • Stay tuned for a full review of my 3 Day Refresh!
Read:: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
  • I finally had a chance to start reading this book. I'll be sure to post a full review once I'm finished!

Hello Summer:: Mexico!

At the beginning of the year, a couple of my girlfriends and I planned an all-inclusive trip to Mexico. Unfortunately, one of my friends lost her passport at the last minute and wasn't able to get a replacement in time to make it along for the trip. After a full day of hectically trying to reschedule and figure out insurance, my other friend and I decided to still take the trip since there was no guarantee that insurance would refund us our money. We were really bummed to be missing our third sidekick, but tried our best to make the most out of the situation.

Here's a little recap of our adventure:

Love List:: TV Shows

About a year and a half ago, I made the decision to ditch cable and get rid of my network provider. I was paying close to $100 a month for TV channels that I really wasn't even watching that often. It's crazy how much we pay to watch TV! I purchased Apple TV ($100 one-time purchase), and logged into my dad's Netflix account, and have been saving myself hundreds of dollars annually!

As soon as my only options for TV were streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, I started binge watching shows like crazy. I probably watched more TV after I ditched my cable provider than I did when I had it! Here are a few of my favorite shows that I have binged over the past couple of years. I highly recommend each and every one of them!
All of these shows were so good that I struggle to pick my favorite. I guess if I had to choose then I would probably put Parenthood at the top of the list. Although Nashville and Revenge are not far behind!

What are some of your favorite shows?

Weekend Recap:: MagicHouse + Zoo + Sweet&Sassy

You guys, I had the best week possible last week. Not only did I get to take an all-inclusive trip to Mexico (stay tuned for a post on that later this week), but I also had some awesome visitors over the weekend. My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew came to visit me on Friday/Saturday, and my mom came up Saturday night!

Since I am moving soon, we wanted to make sure to spend a weekend together and take my nephew to the Magic House and the St. Louis Zoo. I sure am going to miss the convenience of living in St. Louis! Anyways, they arrived mid-day on Friday and we headed to the Magic House. I had never been so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really neat (check out that panoramic view above ^^)!

Gavin was immediately drawn to the first thing that he saw. I wasn't sure if we were even going to get to look at the rest of the house or if we were just going to stay in that one spot forever! Eventually, we got him to explore a little more, and made our way through the rest of the House. His favorite things were the light switches, race car, dump trucks, and anything that played music! My favorite thing was just watching Gavin explore all of the exhibits.  I also enjoyed the live outdoor music and the free Andy's Frozen Custard! Here are a few pictures from our Magic House adventure:

This ball made your hair stand up when you touched it!
Gavin wasn't impressed

On Saturday, we woke up, ate breakfast, and headed to the Zoo! My sister and I were pretty excited since neither of us had been to the Zoo since we were really young. Gavin, on the other hand, wasn't that amused. He was too busy playing with the rocks, plants, and dad's sunglasses to notice most of the animals. He did seem to like the monkeys, though, but was a little confused by the glass we were looking through to see the seals. As we were exploring, I was surprised by how many of the animals I had never heard of (and didn't even know how to pronounce). I mean what is an Okapi anyways?! Overall, I'd say our trip was a success, but we will definitely have to try again when Gavin is a little older. Here are a few pictures from our Zoo adventure:

Checking out the seals!
He wasn't sure what to think of that bird
Once again, not impressed

After we finished at the Zoo on Saturday, we all went back to my condo and took a nap! When Gavin woke up, we headed down to the pool for a little swimming before they had to leave. My brother-in-law was nice enough to bring his truck up to help me move some of the heavier items that I won't be needing anymore after I move.  We loaded up all my spare bedroom furniture for him to take back to my parents house. My condo keeps getting more and more empty, and the reality of moving is finally sinking in!

My mom got here about the time that my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew had to leave to make it back for a birthday party. My mom and I did a little shopping, ate delicious burgers from Five Guys, and then headed back to my place to watch a movie. The next morning we grabbed breakfast, and packed her SUV full of more things I no longer needed, and she headed home.

In addition to all of that, my friend's daughter, Lily, turned 6 on Saturday, and I was lucky enough to get invited to her birthday party at Sweet and Sassy on Sunday. I had never heard of the place before, but it was the cutest little girls birthday party that I have ever been to. Lily and seven of her friends got to put on princess dresses, get their hair and makeup done, and walk a miniature runway like they were princesses. All of them even got their own tiaras! It was the perfect way to end my super busy, but awesome weekend!

P.S. The shorts and shirt I wore to the Magic House are from Old Navy. I love the high neck tanks so much that I bought it in 4 colors!

Weekly Bits:: 4

Received this card in the mail yesterday...perfect timing!

Booked:: A flight to Nashville AND a flight to Washington D.C.!!
  • I decided early on in 2015 that I was going to make it a year full of experiences. At the time, I had zero trips planned for the year, but I knew I wanted to start making plans! Here I am six months later and I have been to Denver, am heading to Mexico in a couple days, and have plans to go to Nashville, Georgia, Washington D.C., and Mexico (again!). I may have gone a little overboard with my wanderlust...but hey, you only live once right?!
Watched:: Aloha
  • I had high expectations for this movie...I mean just look at the cast...Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray...this movie could not fail! While it didn't fail, it also didn't live up to my expectations. Honestly, it was just okay. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it. The whole outer-space plot had me confused for the majority of the movie. I'm glad I went to see it, but probably won't watch it again.
Bought:: Stella & Dot Sparkle Studs
  • For only $19 and free shipping, I just couldn't pass these up! Obviously, a lot of other people couldn't either, since they sold out so quickly. I'm glad I got mine ordered in time!
Tried:: Suja Essentials Fresh Start
  • I am a very picky eater, so the idea of doing a detox or cleanse usually doesn't sit well with me. With Mexico just around the corner, I knew I wanted to try something, and decided to try the Suja Fresh Start. I've seen these juices multiple times at Target, and grabbed a few on my last visit. While I didn't follow the program completely, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed each of the juices, and that I didn't feel like I was starving during any of the days. I will definitely continue to pick up these juices in the future.

Sephora Makeover

At the beginning of 2015, I decided I needed to revamp my makeup collection. I've worn makeup since high school, but it has always been cheap, drugstore makeup, and I was never really taught how to properly apply it. Sephora gives complimentary custom makeovers with a $50 purchase, so I figured I'd give it a shot and have an expert teach me what makeup to use and how to apply it.

Here are a few of the makeup artist's recommendations for me:
I ended up buying the foundation, the foundation brush (this brush is amazing), the brightening pen, and the moisturizer. Although they were a little pricier than I would have liked, I love all four products and am much happier with the way my makeup looks these days.

I still use a lot of my original drugstore products during my daily makeup routine. I love this powder, this blush, and this mascara. Oh, and this brush is also amazing!

What makeup products do you love?

Accountability Partners:: Week 4

Week 4:: May 31st - June 6th
Goal:: Complete a morning workout everyday and run 15 miles in addition to those workouts (and pack for Mexico!).

Week 3 Goal:: Run a minimum of 3 miles per day and give intermittent fasting a try.
Results:: I slacked off on my running a bit last week and only ran/walked five out of the seven days. I did stick to the intermittent fasting for 4 days (a friend visited over the weekend so I didn't even attempt it on Saturday or Sunday). Overall, I really liked the idea of consuming my meals within a 10 hour window each day and refraining for the remainder of the time.  I will try to keep this as part of my daily routine going forward.

Stella & Dot Obsession

A couple years ago, my sister had a Stella & Dot Trunk Show. At the time, I had never heard of Stella & Dot, nor did I know what a "Trunk Show" was, but being the good sister that I am, I agreed to attend. That is all it took for me to become hooked on Stella & Dot!

Here are a few of my  current favorites:
